Type 1 Diabetes in School

Ensuring the safety of the student with type 1 diabetes (T1D) in school is accomplished through a strong partnership between families and the schools.  JDRF can provide resources and education to families and school personnel.

Best practices and helpful forms are part of the JDRF School Advisory Toolkit (SAT).  There is section on learning about T1D, recommended family, student and school responsibilities, as well as ways to develop a 504 Plan for the student.  Download your free copy HERE, and a hardcopy will be sent to your home or school in the weeks to follow.

The Desert Southwest Chapter also offers educational presentations for schools and families on managing T1D in class and on the field.  Knowledge is power!  To learn more, contact JDRF at eromero@jdrf.org

JDRF also provides the Kids Walk to Cure Diabetes Program, in which a JDRF staff member will visit the school and teach students about diabetes and health and wellness!  This joint fundraising program helps fund T1D research to cure, treat and prevent T1D and the school receives 10% of the total raised!  Students are also ellgibile for prizes.  For more info, contact Sarah Grogger at JDRF at sgrogger@jdrf.org and click HERE.
